Lorna "Jeanne" Pierret

Lorna Jean “Jeanne” Pierret, age 69, of Garretson, died on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. Visitation with the family present will be from 6-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.


Lorna Jean “Jeanne” Pierret was born on August 1, 1940, in Garretson to Orville and Gladys (Knutson) McDowell. She grew up on a farm north of Sherman. She attended grade school at Highland District 45 and graduated from Garretson High School in 1958. On June 12, 1958, she married Arnold Pierret. The couple spent time in Springfield, South Dakota and Omaha, Nebraska until moving back to the Sherman area to farm. Jeanne, besides being a homemaker also worked at Citi Bank and Palisade Manor in Garretson.

Jeanne was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Sherman. She loved spending her time with her grandkids. They were the joy of her life. It didn’t matter how hard it was for her to get around, Jeanne always attended her grandkids activities from softball and volleyball games to church and school activities. She would come out to the farm, sit in her car and watch her grandkids ride bike, motorcycle or drive golf cart around. No matter what her grandkids were doing you could always find Jeanne close by. When she wasn’t with her grandkids she enjoyed some time out with her friends, especially their Thursday outings & Sunday morning brunch. She enjoyed taking pictures as well.


Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Arnold of Garretson; two sons: Randy (Rhonda) Pierret of Sherman and Troy Pierret of Garretson; two grandchildren: Brandi (fiancé Jerod Matthews) Pierret and Mark Pierret. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry McDowell.
