Russell Sundal

Russell “Bud” Sundal, 90, of Colton passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Thursday, July 15, 2010 at First Lutheran Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Willow Creek Cemetery, rural Dell Rapids. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.

Bud was born February 23, 1920 to Rasmus and Laura (Kjeldson) Sundal at Lyons, SD and graduated from Lyons High School in 1938. He farmed in the Baltic area and also worked at the Lyons Elevator.

On June 22, 1947 he was married to Esther (Klepp) McDonald of Sioux Falls. Esther had a daughter, Margaret whom he adopted and they had a son Robert. Esther died on June 15, 1958.

On September 18, 1982, Bud married Arla (Qualseth) Busser. They made their home in Colton.

Bud was a member of the First Lutheran Church, he enjoyed bowling and traveling the United States with Arla.

Surviving Bud are his loving wife, Arla, Colton; son, Robert “Rob” (Lori) Sundal, Dunwoody, GA; adopted daughter, Margaret Jungen, Spokane, WA; two stepdaughters, Wanda (Mark) Vande Vooren, Colton; Sandra (Lance) Steinberg, Baltic; two grandsons, Ryan and Eric Sundal, Sioux Falls; a granddaughter, Laura Sundal, Dunwoody, GA; three step grandsons, Wade and Jeff Vande Vooren and Brandon Steinberg, all of Colton; and a sister in law, Bonnie Sundal, Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Hazel Remme, Inez Hartwick, Pearl Opland, Mildred (Hanson) Beck and two brothers, Allec and Marvin.
