Irene Lucille Hove

Irene L. Hove, 96, of Garretson, died on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Palisade Manor in Garretson. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 20, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Visitations will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.

Irene Lucille Hove was born on November 27, 1909 in Rock County, Minnesota to parents Gustav and Bertha (Aaker) Gunderson. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith in Sherman, South Dakota and was later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson on June 3, 1923.


Irene married Lloyd Hove on August 23, 1927. After their marriage the family settled on a farm in the Garretson Area. Lloyd passed away in 1957. Following Lloyd’s death, Irene worked as a lunch lady for the Garretson School for many years, and lived most of her life in the Garretson Area.


Irene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Zion Lutheran Church Women in Garretson. She enjoyed reading and knitting. Irene was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters: Janet Vandersnick and her husband, Tom of Fort Pierre, South Dakota, and Audrey Greiner and her husband Bruce of Afton, Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Nelda Hove of Garretson; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd; two sons, Dennis and Wayne; a daughter-in-law Mary; a grandson, Kent; four sisters and five brothers.
