Elsie Leona Rassel, age 92 passed away January 25, 2010 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman, SD.
Visitation will be 5-7:00 PM Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton. The funeral services will be at First Lutheran Church, Colton on January 29, 2010 at 1:00 PM with burial following at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Huntimer, SD
Elsie L. Rassel was born on January 10, 1918 in Emery, South Dakota to Albert and Ida (Schuetz) Ryberg. She married LeRoy Gassman on November 17, 1938 at Farmer, South Dakota who preceded her in death in 1941. Elsie married Lawrence Rassel on May 14, 1947 at Parkston, South Dakota.
Elsie enjoyed spending time gardening, quilting, and especially cooking as she was owner and operator of Elsie’s Café located in Colton for many years. She loved her family being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother which brought her much joy. Elsie was a long time resident of Colton and a member of the First Lutheran Church. Since 2006, she has resided at Oakview Terrace in Freeman.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Donald (Paula) Gassman, Olympia, WA and Edward Rassel, Colton; three daughters, Patricia Reurink, Sioux Falls, Sharon (Merton) Schmidt, Freeman, and Betty (Gene) Schuster, Schertz, TX; eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, LeRoy Gassman and Lawrence Rassel, her mother and father, a son in law, Gerald Reurink, a great grandson, Skylar Boysen, two brothers, two sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
