Delmar Wesley Lamb, 82, of Garretson, died on Friday, April 17, 2009, at Avera-McKennan in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the United Church of Garretson with burial in the Fairview Cemetery, White, South Dakota. Refreshments will be served at the United Methodist Church in White following the committal at the cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M. Monday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson, with the family present from 5-7:00 P.M.
Delmar was born on March 5, 1927, at Estelline, South Dakota to Wesley and Kathrine Isabelle (Willmott) Lamb. He grew up in the White, South Dakota area and graduated from White High School in 1945. On June 17, 1950, he married Marjorie Walker at White. In 1952, they moved to Garretson. Delmar worked construction all over the Midwest, serving as a job superintendent on industrial and commercial buildings.
In 1975, Delmar moved to a farm north of Sherman and raised pigs and later Christmas trees. Marjorie died on August 11, 1995. Delmar continued to raise Christmas trees until 2001 when he began moving trees. He sold the farm in 2006 and moved to Dell Rapids and later to Palisade Manor in Garretson in October of 2008.
Delmar was a member of the United Church of Garretson and the Dell Rapids Senior Citizens. He was an avid shooting enthusiast and belonged to the Garretson Gun Club. He greatly enjoyed attending the Camp Perry National Pistol Match. He also enjoyed golfing, playing pool and hunting. He had a great zest for life and always played and worked hard.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Roberta “Bobbie” (Richard) Larsen, White, Lynn (Jeff) Gilmore, Renner and Gary (Laurel) Lamb, Dell Rapids; grandchildren: Christine (Mark Pederson) Larsen and their children, Ethan and Brayden, Daniel Larsen, Carrie Gilmore, Nathan (fiancé Kimberly Iverson) Gilmore and Beau (Michelle) Anderson and their son, Oscar; sisters, Dorothy Peterson, Brookings and Marjorie McLean, Bell Air, Florida; a niece, Kay Radzisauskas and a nephew, Alan Peterson. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother, Marvin.
