Geraldine J. Goodale, 80, of Chester died suddenly but peacefully Sunday, December 20, 2009.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 24th, 2009 at Huntimer-St. Joseph the Workman Catholic Church, rural Colton. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Dell Rapids.

Visitation will be from 1-5:00 PM Wednesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids and resume at 6:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM and Wake service at 7:30 PM at the church.

Geraldine was born October 7, 1929 to parents Matthew and Ida (Geraets) Wolles, Dell Rapids. Geraldine graduated from St. Mary High School and received her teaching certificate from General Beadle in Madison. She taught in a country school for a few years.

Geraldine was united in marriage with Gerald (Jerry) Goodale on June 1, 1950 in Dell Rapids. The couple farmed together all of their 60 years of married life.

Geraldine will be remembered as a loving, devoted wife, mom and grandma. She was proud of her family and looked forward to the family’s traditional holidays. She was always in the kitchen. She at all times had her famous chocolate cake and homemade bread on hand. She loved to teach her grandkids to bake with her. Geraldine was a great seamstress. She sewed many clothes for relatives and friends, including wedding gowns for her daughters. She was a member of the Huntimer-St. Joseph the Workman Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar Society, sewing many baptismal gowns and vestments for the priests. She and her husband were great ballroom dancers and loved music. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Geraldine will be truly missed by her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Goodale, Chester, her children and their spouses, Terry (Michelle) Goodale, Chester; Marilee (Bob) Casanova, Ramona; Sheila (Steve) Ingram, Ft. Pierre; Cinda (Steve) Pankratz, Sioux Falls; Ken (Kathy) Goodale, Chester; Angie (Mark) Quissell Sioux Falls;
Jan (John) Smallcomb, Sioux Falls; Doug (Stacey) Goodale, Sioux Falls; twenty-four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four siblings and their spouses, Roger (Bev) Wolles, Dell Rapids; Ethel (Bob) Schmidt, Dell Rapids; Walter (Sheila) Wolles, Mountain View California; Jim (Shirley) Wolles, Dell Rapids; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, and two brothers, Howard and Richard Wolles. .
