Gladys Benson, age 80, of Hills, Minnesota, died on Monday, December 21, 2009, at Sanford-Luverne Hospital in Luverne. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. Sunday, December 27, 2009, at the Palisade Lutheran Church, rural Beaver Creek, MN, with burial at 1:00 P.M. in the church cemetery. A memorial service will follow the burial at 2:00 P.M. at the church.
Gladys C. Benson was born on September 20, 1929 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Nils and Martha (Mundahl) Fylling. She grew up on a farm south of Canton, near Norway Center. She attended grade school at District #24 and high school in Canton, graduating from Augustana Academy. After her education, she worked at Northwestern Bell in Sioux Falls. On November 20, 1955, she married Nels Benson at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. To this union, two boys were born.
Gladys was a housewife on a farm near Garretson and Beaver Creek. On July 3, 1996, she received a gift of life from a kidney transplant. Sine 2007, she has resided at the Tuff Home and Village in Hills.
Gladys was a member of the Palisade Lutheran Church, rural Garretson, where she belonged to ladies aid and the Mary Circle. She was also a member of the Garretson American Legion Auxiliary.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Nels, of Hills; two sons: Tim (JoEllen) Benson, Garretson, and Dan Benson, Worthington, MN; grandchildren: Kelly (Erin) Tisdell and their son Dalton, Katie (Andy) Stoakes, Eric Benson and Tyler Benson; brothers-in-law: Clifford McConniel and Jack Kuhns; cousin, Mabel Eiesland; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Elvina Nichols-Kuhns and Nila McConniel.
