Melloie C. Oien, 93, of Brookings formerly of Renner died Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the United Retirement Center in Brookings.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 29, 2008 at First Lutheran Church, Brookings. Burial will be in the West Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, rural Crooks. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday, November 28, 2008 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Melloie was born May 23, 1915 near Crooks to parents Fred and Ida Peterson. She grew up in the Crooks-Lyons area and attended Lyons High School before graduating from Washington High School.
Melloie married Morris Oien October 15, 1938 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Renner until 1993. They then moved to Brookings. Morris died October 20, 1996. Melloie continued to live in Brookings and moved to the United Retirement Center in 2004.
While living near Renner, Melloie was an active member of the Renner Lutheran Church and ladies aid, also active in the 4-H club, county extension club and the Renner Senior Citizens. In Brooking she was a member of the First Lutheran Church and circle. She enjoyed bowling with friends and spending time with her family.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Karen Morgan and her husband Clem, New Richmond, Wisconsin; Fred Oien, Brookings; her two grandchildren, John and Mary Ruth Oien, both of Brookings; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ida, her step father, Melvin Oyen, and her husband, Morris.
The family of Melloie Oien requested that memorial be directed to the Oien Family Endowment at SDSU.
