Douglas A. Brown

Douglas A. Brown, 47, of Sioux Falls formerly of Brookings died May 1, 2009 at his home of natural causes.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Friday, May 8, 2009 at Ascension Lutheran Church, Brookings. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Brookings. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the church.

Douglas Alan Brown was born to Arnold and Doris (Krogstad) Brown September 13, 1961. Doug attended elementary school in Velva, ND and Rhinelander, WI. He moved with his family to Brookings when he was in 5th grade where he finished elementary, junior high and high school. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics and psychology from SDSU.

As a singer/songwriter he played in the band The B Team, the trio Brown, Brown, and Juntunen and toured colleges with his brother as Brown and Brown.

He worked in Human Resources for the state of SD. He then held a similar position in the Health Department at Ft. Myers, FL. He returned to Pierre as Director of Human Resources for the State Health Department. He moved to Sioux Falls where he took a position as Human Resources Director of BankFirst then became Vice President of Liberty Point. Doug also served on the board of directors of Volunteers of America.
He is remembered for his quick wit, thoughtfulness, generosity, his musical talent and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

He is survived by his parents, four sisters, Debra Waltner, Brandon; Patty Brown, Hardin, MT; Cynthia (Jim) Juntunen, Brookings; Kari (Chris) Garbark, Southern Pines, NC; a brother, David (Lisa) Brown, Custer, nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorials may be given to Volunteers of America, a cause he firmly believed in or Ascension Lutheran Church Music Department in Brookings.
