Norma V. Karli

July 29, 1916 — May 5, 2009

Norma V. Karli, 92, of Garretson passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Palisade Manor in Garretson.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM Friday with the family present from 5 to 7:00 PM at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Garretson.

Norma was born July 29, 1916 in Sioux Falls to parents Olaf and Martha (Almie) Anderson. She attended Whittier School and graduated from Washington High School in 1934. Norma attended Augustana College and entered nurses training at Sioux Valley Hospital, graduating in the spring of 1940. She was employed by the hospital for four years as floor supervisor on a surgical and medical floor.

Norma married Milton C. Karli March 11, 1944 at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls after a three year engagement. The couple farmed near Garretson until 1950 before moving into Garretson. They purchased a feed mill business and started a milk delivery business. Norma also worked as a Registered Nurse at Luther Manor Nursing Home and Palisade Manor. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church. Milton passed away May 24, 2001.

Norma loved spending time with family and friends, especially enjoying time with her grandchildren. She liked to needle point and quilting. She was proud of her Precious Moments figurine collection.

Grateful for having shared her life are three sons, Mark (Lynne) Karli, Franklin, MA, Steven (Belinda) Karli, Garretson, SD, Dean (Edith) Karli, Sherman, SD; six grandchildren, Amanda (Joshua) Adams, Betsy Karli, Claire Karli, Katherine Karli, Megan (Adam) Robitaille, and Ryan Pollard; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant son; infant daughter; and brother, Lauren.

Inlieu of flowers, they family requests memorials be directed to the Garretson Ambulance Service.
