Myron “Mike” Valland, 77, of Sioux Falls formerly of Colton died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will begin at 1:30 PM Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 5:30 PM Monday, September 29, 2008 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM all at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton. Burial will be in the Bethania Cemetery, Colton.
Myron was born June 27, 1931 in Sioux Falls to parents Orville and Elizabeth (Fetters) Valland. He grew up west of Colton and attended country school and later graduated from Colton High School. Myron entered to United States Army in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1954.
Myron married Dorothy Peterson June 1, 1952 in Colton. They lived in Sioux Falls for a short time before moving to the farm west of Colton, where he farmed until his farm accident in 1987. Myron also was employed at John Morrell and Company for 37 years. In 1988 they moved to Sioux Falls. Myron was a 50 year member of the Colton American Legion.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Dorothy, Sioux Falls; two sons and their wives, Steve & Carol Valland, Pierre; Todd & Stephanie Valland, Cave Creek, Arizona; a daughter and her husband, Nancy & Kent Schmidt, Manassas, Virginia; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lloyd and sister, Bernice Reurink.
