Atha L. Wonsbeck, 90, of Madison died Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Golden Living Center.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Thursday, November 13, 2008 at First Lutheran Church, Colton. Visitation with the family present will begin at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton. Burial will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery, Dell Rapids.
Atha was born to Lester and Irene (Van Voorhis) Salisbury on July 20, 1918. She was baptized at the Colton Methodist Church and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Colton. She attended country school and then graduated from Colton High School.
Atha married Marvin Berge on June 20, 1940. They resided in Colton until Marvin’s death in 1967. She moved to Arlington and married Alvin Wonsbeck in 1971. Alvin died in 1974. Atha then moved to Madison.
Atha belonged to the Eastern Star of Colton and the VFW Auxiliary of Madison.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Ila Mathieu, Chester; six grandchildren; Mark (Lisa) Mathieu, Susan Mathieu, Nancy (Mike) Roberts, Kathy (Dan) Carman, Ryan Hegle, and Jeremy Hegle; nine great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Berge in 1967, her husband Alvin Wonsbeck in 1974, two brothers, Harris and Curtis and a daughter, Sheryl in 2005.
