Karla was born September 26, 1967 in Platte, SD to parents, Dean and Marlene (Markus) Plooster. She grew up on the farm, attended elementary and high school in Corsica, SD and college at Dakota State University and University of Sioux Falls earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. After college, she was a nanny for a year and then moved to O’Neill, NE to work at the Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital. While there, she met and then married her husband, Louis Peter, on April 3, 1993. After their marriage, they lived in O’Neill, NE until they moved to Dell Rapids, SD where Karla was employed at Avera Health in Sioux Falls, SD.
She grew up in the First Reformed Church in Harrison, SD and was a current member of the Reformed Church in Dell Rapids, SD. The 1986 Homecoming Queen was a lighthouse for many through her positive words and empathetic actions. She never missed a sporting event and was the loudest cheerleader in the stands. Her smile lit up a room and her “fabulous” attitude provided inspiration that goes beyond the parameters of life. Karla played many roles within the community and held her faith in the highest of regards. She was loving, humble, gracious, and filled with Diet Coke.
