Florence Van Kekerix

Florence Van Kekerix, 95, of Colton passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center, Dell Rapids.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 5, 2018 at Faith Community Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery preceding the service. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the Minnehaha Funeral Chapel, Colton.

Florence was born June 19, 1922 on a farm near Colton to parents Peter and Winnie (Van Hunnick) Vander Plaats. She grew up on the farm and married Harry Van Kekerix February 5, 1941. After their marriage they farmed near Orland and Hartford, before moving into Colton. She then worked for Bud and Ruby Larson at the Garden and Gift Shop and was a cook for Tri Valley School for over 20 years.

She was a life long member of the Christian Reformed Church, now Faith Community Church, where she was baptized and Confirmed.

Grateful for having shared her life are a daughter, Peggy (Harold) Swier, Hartford; two sons, Darrel (Paulette) Van Kekerix, Roy, WA; David (Mary Benae) Van Kekerix, Lacey, WA; nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, eleven, great great grandchildren; a brother, Marion Vander Plaats, Sioux Falls; a sister in law, Tena Vander Plaats, Dell Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry on February 9, 2000, two great grandsons, two brothers, a sister and her parents.
