Douglas John Sittig, age 62, of Hartford passed away on September 11, 2017 after a 10 year courageous battle with colon cancer.

Memorial services will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 16, 2017 at St. George Catholic Church in Hartford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, September 15, 2017 at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.

Doug was born November 12, 1954, to Wesley and Evelyn (Odde) Sittig in Dell Rapids, SD. Doug began his education in a country school and at the age of seven attended school in Dell Rapids where he was an all-around athlete participating in football, basketball and track. He graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1973. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army, serving his time in Germany.Doug was employed for over 31 years at Sanford Hospital as a power plant operator.

Doug enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He built and customized several motorcycles. In 1995 Doug met Deb (Spielmann) Bossman and for over 22 years they built a life together. They enjoyed many trips to the Sturgis Rally meeting up with their Sturgis Family. Doug and Deb were married on January 20, 2017. Doug also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always liked to go where there weren’t any game wardens! Trips to hunt deer, duck and pheasant were always good times with good friends. During the last years, Doug really enjoyed his fishing trips with his brother, Steve and several friends. Doug was rumored to be the best bobber fisherman ever---a rumor he probably started!

Doug is survived by his wife, Deb; brother, Steve, Sioux Falls, mother-in-law, Lorna Spielmann, Hartford; brother and sister-in-laws, Gregg and Marsha Schneider, Sioux Falls, Darrell and Carolyn Spielmann, Hartford; aunt, Helen Stansell, Dell Rapids and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; lifelong friend, Kevin Park, Dell Rapids and his Sturgis Family.

Doug was preceded in death by his infant sister, Nyla; parents, Wesley and Evelyn; grandparents, John and Minnie Odde, Ed and Naomi Sittig; father-in-law, Delbert Spielmann; several aunts, uncles and cousin.

During Doug’s battle with cancer, he and Deb were supported by their family, friends, neighbors, power plant crew and co-workers. Deb and Doug would like you to know how much it was appreciated and to thank you for the prayers, care and sacrifices.
