Henry was born on October 31, 1929 to Jim and Fannie (Zwart) Van Wyhe in Rock County, MN. On February 1, 1950 he married his first love, Clazina (Veldkamp) Van Wyhe.

Henry and Clazina farmed for 42 years in Minnesota and South Dakota. Farming was more than just crop farming for Henry, he raised livestock, started a feedlot operation and a trucking company. A few highlights include the 1968 Red Chevy Pickup that he won in a drawing at the Sioux Falls stockyards, a cover photo in 1986 on "Feedlot Management" magazine, and an award naming him the 1988 South Dakota Cattleman of the Year. Van Wyhe Trucking was established in the mid-1970s with a red International Cabover truck and a livestock trailer. The size and number of trucks continued to grow. In the late 1980s, Henry moved the Van Wyhe Trucking office to Sioux Falls and expanded to hauling prefab concrete throughout the Upper Midwest.

When it was time to retire, Henry decided that retirement was not a time to sit around. So, he enjoyed seeing the country delivering fire trucks across the United States and into Canada. He and Clazina put thousands of miles on the motor home in retirement visiting family and friends and wintering several years in Arizona. Henry's true passion in retirement was fishing and driving his boat. Fishing with Henry was always a great adventure but the best part of being on the boat was time gathering with friends and family.

Henry was always good for a story or a joke. He wore a smile on his face while he told you exactly what he thought. He was always excited to tell you about his children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are wife, Clazina Van Wyhe, Brandon, SD; children, Arlyn (Barb) Van Wyhe of Hartford, SD, Randy (Terri) Van Wyhe of Pine Island, MN, Flora (Randy) Tieszen of Mitchell, SD and Bonnie (Bruce) Austin of Dodge City, KS; grandchildren, Michelle Parmer, James Van Wyhe, Jason Van Wyhe, Rollie Van Wyhe, Janelle Stahl, Wendy Whelpley, Kevin Van Wyhe, Aaron Wulf, Amber Neuheisel, Tyler Wulf, Melissa Bach, Joshua Austin, Caleb Austin and Jonathan Austin; twenty six great-grandchildren; brother, Ray (Carol) Van Wyhe of Laverne, MN; sister, JoAnn (Stan) Westra of Hull, IA; sister- in-law, Arlene Van Wyhe of Rock Rapids, IA and many other relatives and friends.
