Richard (Rick) Douglas Hewer, 57, died Monday August 14th, 2017at his home in Panhandle, TX.

Funeral services will begin at 7:00 PM Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Minnehaha Funeral Home Chapel in Garretson, SD. Burial will be at 10:00 AM Friday, August 25, 2017 at Split Rock Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Brandon, SD.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Garretson, SD.

Rick was born August 30th, 1959 at McKennan Hospital to Junior and Judy (Boyum) Hewer. He attended Valley Springs Elementary School and Brandon Valley High School where he played football as a full back.

Rick had numerous jobs including Gage Brothers and many others before his last job with the City of Panhandle fixing and welding city trucks and equipment and also driving the city garbage route.

Rick grew up on a farm and loved animals including Bozo, Stanley and Buddy who went everywhere with him including, work this last few years. He had numerous cats and dogs in his past, even ferrets.

Rick really enjoyed the outdoors including camping, fishing and hunting. He loved the beauty God created and the peace it gave him. He loved to grill and invite neighbors and friends over. He was like his Dad who helped everyone fixing things and helping them.

Rick is survived by his son, Jesse (fiancé Shanda) Hewer and his children, daughter, Jade, sons, Gage and Kail; Shanda’s children, Alexis and Bailey; son, Jason (BJ) Hewer and their daughter, Jazman; Jesse and Jason’s mother, Cheryl Swenson; siblings, Greg Hewer, Ginger Dahlenburg, Lonnie Hewer, Patti (Don) Fox and Julie (Scott) Clark and many nieces and nephews who meant the world to him. He was preceded in death by his parents.
