Robert S. ”Bob” Pitts, 93 of Colton died Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the First Reformed Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Minnehaha Funeral Chapel, Colton.
Robert was born July 22, 1923 on a farm near Humboldt to parents Steve Henry and Pearl (Young) Pitts. He grew up in the Humboldt area and attended Grand Meadow Country School. Robert married Donia Lewis August 10, 1946 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
He entered the United States Navy in 1943 and served during World War II until his discharge in 1945. After the service he worked at John Morrell and Company, before becoming the manager at Ron’s Trim. He also worked for King Trim. In 1951 he moved to Colton and started Bob’s Upholstery in Colton where he continued to work until his retirement.
He was a member of the Colton American Legion.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Donia, Colton; his children, Mary (Dave) Cuzick, Spring Valley, CA; Lonnie (Connie) Pitts, Sioux Falls; Richard (Sue) Pitts, Colton; Carol (Ken) Foster, Colton; Lawrence “Larry” (Shirley) Pitts, Garretson; Phillis Morris, Sioux Falls and Annette (Tim) Luke, Sioux Falls; nineteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Steve and siblings, Hazel, Phillip, Ken, Albert, Ben, Bill and Lyle.
