Orpha Brende, 94, of Baltic died Friday, April 28, 2017 at her home.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Baltic Lutheran Church, Baltic. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Memorials can be directed to the Baltic Lutheran Carpet Fund.
Orpha A. Prestbo was born May 29, 1922 in Baltic to parents Palmer and Olga (Brende) Prestbo. She attended Baltic School and graduated in 1941. She was baptized and confirmed at Baltic Lutheran Church.
On March 21, 1942 she married Elwin Brende in Hartington, Nebraska, after which they lived in and near Renner. In 1969 they moved to Cleburne, Texas. Orpha returned to Baltic in 1992.
Orpha was a member of Baltic Lutheran Church and Baltic American Legion Auxiliary.
Orpha was a very caring person, who was willing to send cards to friends and family for every occasion. She was well known for her colorful hats, which she proudly wore at various church activities. Grandma Texas as she was called by her grandchildren would often bake them her famous banana bread for treats.
Grateful for having shared her life are two daughters, Lynda Johnson, Baltic and Melanie (Rocky) Thompson, Brandt Lake; two sons, Kevin (Shari) Brende, Renner and Kent Brende, Baltic; a daughter in law, Donna Brende, Crooks; her sister, Delores “Lolly” Prestbo, Vancouver, WA; eight grandchildren; Scott (Joy Goytia) Johnson, Jason (Tonya Anderson) Brende, Jamie (Dawn) Brende, Jeff (Jamie) Brende, Jarvis (Heather) Brende, Kyle (Tatia) Brende, Kari (Cody) Sundermann, and D’one (Jeremy) Wagner; twenty great grandchildren, Cole, Luke, Levi, Mackenzie, Owen, Reese , Hayden, Jaxson, Lauren, Paige, Jayea, Abby, Cade, Shawn, Kirsten, K.J., Alaynna, Jupiter, Maleeya, and Addy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elwin, an infant son, brother, Donald Prestbo, sister, Arlene Nesheim, son, Keith Brende, grandson, Darin Johnson and son in law, Richard Johnson.
