Dorothy Erickson, 90, of Garretson passed away Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Sanford USD Medical Center.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Baltic. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Swedona Covenant Cemetery, rural Brandon.
Dorothy Jean Erickson was born on July 19th, 1926 in Sioux Falls, SD to Frank and Hilda (Fester) Archer. She graduated from Brandon High School in 1944. After high school, she worked at John Morrell.
On March 3rd, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage with Clifford Erickson. The couple made their home on the farm outside of Garretson where they raised their three children, Danny, Joanne, and Pam. Dorothy's life revolved around the family farm, community activities and most importantly, her church.
After Clifford passed away, Dorothy served as custodian at East Nidaros Church for over 25 years and her grandchildren became her whole world for the remainder of her life. Dorothy always believed she was put on this earth to care for others. She was known for mothering many people and she shared her love by cooking and baking for them often. Nobody ever left her house hungry.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Joanne (Todd) Egge, Brandon, her bonus daughter, Michele Staley-Needham, Philadelphia, PA, her son-in-law, Steve Mathison, Sioux Falls, her brother/best friend Wilbur (Karla) Archer, Sioux Falls, her sister, Ruthe Young, Welcome, MN, her sister-in-law, Carol Archer, Brandon, her sister-in-law RuthAnn (Don) Skoglund, Lake Norden, her four grandchildren, Ben Mathison, Sioux Falls, Christina Egge, Spearfish, Robert (Hannah) Mathison, Sioux Falls, Joseph Egge, Sioux Falls and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford; brother, Ronald; daughter, Pam; and son, Danny. She will be greatly missed.
