Margaret J. Nussbaum, age 79, of Garretson, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Bethany Home in Brandon. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Monday, September 26, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Interment will follow at the West Palisade Lutheran Cemetery, rural Rock County, Minnesota. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 pm Sunday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.
Margaret Johanna Nussbaum was born on September 28, 1936, in Rock County, Minnesota, to Swen and Helma (Steneberg) Pederson. She was raised on a farm east of Garretson in Rock County and would ride her blind pony “Cutie” to District 52 country school for class. She graduated from Garretson High School and went on to attend Augustana College and Black Hills State where she earned a teaching degree. She then taught country school for one year. On December 17, 1955, Margaret married Norman Nussbaum at Palisade Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Garretson area and Margaret began selling real estate in the mid 1970’s.
Margaret was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she was involved in the quilting group. She was also active in the Garretson Senior Citizens. Margaret was proud of her Norwegian Heritage and enjoyed doing rosemaling, and baking and cooking Norwegian foods. She also greatly enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Norman, Garretson; sons: Craig (Laurie) Nussbaum, Keith (Angela) Nussbaum, Kurt (Paula) Nussbaum, and Kent Nussbaum, all of Garretson; 10 grandchildren: Ryan, Shelly, and Kelly Nussbaum; Logan Nussbaum; Joe, Sarah, Sally, and James Nussbaum; and Riley Baade, and Kade Nussbaum; three great-grandchildren: Jadyn, Carsen, and Whitley; brother, Sid (Wendy) Pederson, Sioux Falls; and special nieces and nephew: Tom Davis, Erik Pederson, Kristen Husman, and Kari Pederson. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: George Sampson, and Gordon Pederson; and sisters: Joyce Davis, and Helen Pederson.To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Margaret J.
