Pearl V. Oien, age 88, of Garretson, formerly of Baltic, died on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at the Palisade Healthcare Community in Garretson. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 24, 2016, at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Baltic, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Memorials received will be donated to several Garretson charities or you may choose a charity of your choice.

Pearl was born on April 26, 1928, in Sioux Falls, to Hans and Emelie (Hagen) Hilmoe. She grew up on a farm near Baltic. She attended high school at Augustana Academy and then received further education at Nettleton College. She married Randolph Nelson in 1948. Pearl was loan officer for several businesses including: Getty Abstract Company, First Federal Savings & Loan, Western State Bank, Miktomm Mortgage, and Norwest Mortgage. On September 11, 1971, Pearl married O.T. “Tuffy” Oien. She retired in 1994.

Pearl was a member of Eastside Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, Ducks Unlimited, and was a past president of the Sioux Falls Zonta Club. She enjoyed golfing, gardening and playing cards, and of course always had a joke to tell. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Lorna Williamson, Garretson; grandson, Todd (Robin) Williamson, Brandon; granddaughter, Leah (Chad) Jones, Garretson; great-grandchildren: Halle and Kenley Williamson, and Anna and Jake Jones; sisters-in-law, Joan Hilmoe, Delores Hilmoe, and Melva Lee Hilmoe; brother-in-law, Rex Gaskins, a special cousin, Agnes Berge, Garretson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, O.T. “Tuffy” Oien in 1983; brothers, Selmer, Arnold, and Morris Hilmoe; sisters, Mildred Hilmoe, Hazel Edwards, Lillian Gaskins, and Ruth Savage; and brothers-in-law, Gordon Edwards, and Richard Savage.
