He graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1944. Milton entered the United States Army in 1945 and was stationed in Germany, being discharged in 1947.
Milton married Audrey Van Briesen on November 17, 1945 at Camp Robinson, Little Rock, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Dell Rapids until 1948 when they moved to a farm northeast of Dell Rapids. He also helped Bill Klein’s sons with harvest. Since then he retired at least six times.
