Darrel James Bonte, age 67, of Garretson, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at his home. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday, June 20, 2016, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Darrel was born on October 21, 1948 in Sioux Falls to Charles and Irene (Nelson) Bonte. He grew up in Garretson and graduated from Garretson High School. Darrel spent his life working in the airline industry. During his career he lived in Chicago, Rochester, and Orlando while working for Ozark Airlines, TWA, and American Airlines. He also farmed north of Garretson. Darrel married Marcia Peterson on May 8, 1971.

Darrel had many hobbies which included collecting classic cars, fishing, mowing, and following the St. Louis Cardinals. But most of all, Darrel enjoyed time spent spoiling his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia, Garretson; sons: Tucker (Deanna Johnson) Bonte of Garretson, and his children, Cody, Kailyn, and Brock; and Luke (Deidra) Bonte of Sherman and their children: Clay, Maren, Nora, and Bence; siblings: Steve (Karen) Bonte of Garretson, Ken Bonte of Beresford, Lurene (Rick) Vandersnick of Garretson, and Dave (Deb) Bonte of Garretson; a brother-in-law, Bill Benson of Sherman; an aunt, Marjorie Sakry, Jasper, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Cathy Benson, and a sister-in-law, Deborah Bonte.
