Robert James Olund, age 73, of Garretson, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Memorial visitation will be from 3-6:00 pm Sunday, May 22, 2016, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Garretson Fire Dept., Garretson Community Ambulance, Garretson American Legion Baseball Programs, or the Garretson Ball Association.

Bob was born on January 25, 1943, at Pipestone, Minnesota, to Bert and June (Nelson) Olund. He moved with his family to Canton and then to Garretson where he graduated from Garretson High School in 1961. On February 2, 1966, Bob married Nancy Vandersnick at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Garretson.

Bob served in the National Guard and spent the first 20 years of his working career managing the Garretson Municipal Liquor Store. He then managed Mr. C’s in Dell Rapids, and finally opened his own place, Bobby O’s in Garretson. Bob retired in 2004. Bob was a member of the Garretson American Legion and was a charter member of the Garretson Jaycee’s.

Bob was active in many activities and enjoyed his time pitching for the Pomp Room Softball Team, playing pool with “The Old Farts”, playing pinochle and pepper at The Bullet in Sherman, and hunting and fishing. He was also an avid Dodgers, Twins, Vikings, and Steelers fan. But most of all, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his children and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Garretson; children: Mike (Terri) Olund of Dell Rapids, Sheila Matthiesen of Garretson, and Aaron (Ashley) Olund of Jasper, MN; 9 grandchildren: Noah Olund, Marissa (Chris) Nielsen (and their children, Hunter, Chaise, Saige, Zander, and Payne), Koty Matthiesen, Austin Matthiesen, Dakota Olund, Tryston Olund, Isabell Olund, Hope Olund, and Lincoln Olund; a brother, Roger (Barb) Olund of White Bear Lake, MN, and two nieces Sheri and Kim and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents.
