Earnest A. Eide, age, 91, of Garretson, died on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Thursday, March 24, 2016, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Interment will be in the Bethania Cemetery, rural Trent. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Earnest was born on June 7, 1924, to Edward and Annie (Hanson) Eide at Trent, South Dakota. He married Pauline Bernstein on July 15, 1944 in Pipestone, Minnesota. He served in the United States Army in Europe for three years during World War II.

Earnest and Pauline settled in Oldham, South Dakota where they had four sons. In 1961 they moved to Garretson. Earnest started several mechanic businesses before working for the Minnehaha County Highway Department. He retired in 1989.

Survivors include his sons: Norm (Cathy) of Graettinger, IA, Vincent of Garretson, and Gerald of Rapid City; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two special coffee friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline; his oldest son, William, Sr., and five siblings.
