Lester “Bud” Sittig, age 89, of Garretson, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at his home. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls. Memorial visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM Friday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Bud was born on October 28, 1926, to Albert and Angeline (Bream) Sittig in rural Sioux Falls. After graduating from Brandon High School in 1944, Bud served in the United States Army from 1946-1947. He returned to South Dakota and farmed with his dad for one year before attending South Dakota State College. In 1949 he met Edna D. Gustafson, and the two were married on September 8, 1949 in Brookings.

After college, Bud spent his entire life farming in the Garretson area. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls and loved telling jokes, card playing, dinners, and socializing.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Ann Smith, Graham, WA, Pat (Alan) Scott, Stevensville, MT, Scott (Nora) Sittig, Garretson, Douglas (Pat) Sittig, Sioux Falls, and Becky Eggers, Garretson; nine grandchildren: Daniel (Abbie) Scott, Nick (Melanie) Sittig, Steven (Ceri) Scott, Jennifer (Michael Topkins) Sittig, Michael (Melissa) Smith, Philip Eggers, Paul (Lexi) Sittig, Brad Sittig, and Jonathan (Natalie) Eggers; eleven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dolores Fagerstrom, New York, and a brother-in-law, Evon Gustafson, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Edna in 2003, and a sister, Shirley Neubert.
