Herman Brende, age 93, of Renner, died on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at his home. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am Monday, February 15, 2015, at Renner Lutheran Church in Renner. Private family burial will precede the service on Monday. Visitation with the family present will be from 3-5:00 pm Sunday at the church.

Herman M. Brende was born on August 8, 1922 near Renner, South Dakota to Severin P. and Emma (Schjodt) Brende. He attended Berg School and Washington High School and was baptized and confirmed at Renner Lutheran Church. On May 12, 1943 he married Marvel Brekke at Rapid City, South Dakota. After their marriage, the couple settled near Renner where they operated a dairy farm. In later years he was so proud of the Northern Links Golf Course and his family’s accomplishments in this endeavor.

Herman was very involved in the Renner community. He was a member and past fire chief of the Renner Fire Department. He was Mapleton Township board member and was active in Senior Citizens. Herman was also a lifetime member of the Renner Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marvel of Renner; children: Stuart Brende of Sioux Falls, Amber Kern of Renner, April (Robert) Endahl of Brandon, and Ryne Brende of Renner; grandchildren: Clayton Kern, John Kern, Mark Endahl, Craig Endahl, Kelli Sinksen, Shalece Brende, Dylan Brende, and Chantel Brende; and five great-grandchildren: Karsten, Kimberly, Kylee, Grant, and Allyson. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Paul Brende, Myra Anderson, and Elwin Brende.
