Kenneth Paul Pierret was born on September 25, 1937 to Leo and Martha (Dubbelde) Pierret. He was born and raised in Garretson along with his two brothers and two sisters. When Kenney was born, the story goes that Leo and Martha paid the doctor for his birth with a plate of fried chicken and homemade pie and if you were ever lucky enough to have Martha’s cooking you know the doctor was paid well that day. He attended Mount Pleasant Country School his first year and when the family moved to town he attended Garretson Public School up to the eighth grade. Afterwards, he and his brothers helped their father on the farm. Kenney and his brother, Donald became partners and farmed together as the Pierret Brothers. He was a member of the Minnesota National Guard from 1955 to 1963.
Kenney meet Mary Ellen Godbey at the roller rink on the main street of Garretson. Mary Ellen must have been impressed with his skating skills because they were married on January 27, 1968 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Father Johnson. They had their first child, Todd Kenneth on July 4, 1968. In 1970 they moved from a trailer in town to a farm in Minnesota. Their second child, Tracy Ellen was born August 31, 1971. In 1979 the family moved into the house where Kenney had lived as a boy and his parents moved into town. This farm house was built by Art Dubbelde, Kenney’s grandfather. Kenney and Mary Ellen built a new house just down the way from the family farm house and in 2008 he finally convinced her to move into it. Kenney retired from farming except for his love of combining.
Grateful for having shared his life are a son, Todd (special friend, Sheri Dirito and her children, Michael and Travis) Pierret and their child, Nicolas, Garretson; daughter, Tracy (Adam) Alleman and their children, Grace and Noah, Denver, CO; brother, Don (Linda) Pierret, Garretson; sisters, Sister Madonna Pierret, Aberdeen, SD; Marlene (Don) Fiegen, Lacrosse, WI as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
