Selma Caroline Larson, 92, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015, at her daughter’s home near Baltic. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will precede the service at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Selma was born on May 22, 1923, in Vienna, South Dakota, to Oscar and Lillian (Babler) Steen. She attended Vienna Public School and graduated in 1942. She then attended General Beadle College in Madison where she earned her teacher’s certificate. On November 25, 1942, Selma married Loyle Larson at Camp Adair in Oregon. The couple moved to Sioux Falls in 1950.
Selma worked in the advertising department at L.C. Lippert, and was also a secretary at Laura B. Anderson and Emerson Schools. She was a member of East Side Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and was active in WELCA and Circle. She was also active in the Legion Auxiliary, Moose Lodge, VFW Auxiliary, Senior Citizens, and PTA. She enjoyed ceramics, needlework, cooking, and spending summers at Lake Poinsett.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Loyle Larson, Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Debra Larson of Baltic; grandchildren: Bill Larson, Albuquerque, Jenny (Brian) Hefty, Baltic, and Kathryn (Mark) Haffeman, Sioux Falls; and great grandchildren: Zach, Jetta, and Delaney Hefty; and Hailey, Chase, and Tyler Haffeman. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loyle; daughter, Sherry; and siblings: Carmen, Selmer, and Orvin.
