Ann Vander Plaats, 84, of Colton died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Friday, October 23, 2015 at Faith Community Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the church.
Ann was born November 11, 1930 near Chester to parents Albert and Grace (Gelderman) Meyerink. She grew up in the Colton area and graduated from Colton High School in 1949. After her education she worked for families in the area cleaning homes and also worked at the Colton Nursery.
Ann married Marion Vander Plaats February 21, 1950 in Colton. After their marriage they farmed in the Franklin-Colton area, retiring into Colton in 1997.
Ann was a member of Faith Community Church, where she had taught Sunday school. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, playing cards and played softball into her 40’s. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Marion, Colton; his daughters, Pat (Dale) Benson, Bev (Chuck) Van Hofwegen, and Dawn (Duane) Beiswanger, all of Sioux Falls, Brenda Thue, Parkers Prairie, MN; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Fannie Swier, Colton; sisters in law, Florence Van Kekerix, Mary Meyerink, and Tena Vander Plaats.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John and sisters, Marie and Alida.
