William (Bill) Edward Eide, Sr, ,70, formerly of Garretson passed away peacefully at home from natural causes on July 31st, 2015. Bill was born June 3rd, 1945 in Oldham-Ramona to Ernest & Pauline Eide. Bill was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, and graduated from Garretson High School in 1964.

Bill was a very sociable person, whom loved to chat with anyone about anything. He loved to joke around, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Bill served in the Vietnam War, as a radio operator, and was Honorably Discharged. He went on to marry his first wife, Kathy Edwards, with whom he had two children, William Eide, Jr, (45) and Andrew Eide (35).

After a divorce, he married his second wife, Linda Barstead True, until her passing in 2005. During this time, Bill worked as a State Scale Inspector for the State of North Dakota, while living in Mandan, ND. He retired from there, and moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota, and lived there up until his passing. He loved the Black Hills and all its scenery. Although he suffered some setbacks, he still lived his life to its fullest. Bill was known as "Bird Man" amongst his friends in Mandan, and was well known for his pet pigeon, Hoots. This bird was his pride and joy, and he loved it more than anything else. Bill loved his family, and always wanted to see them as much as he could.

He is survived by his father, Earnest of Garretson, brothers Vincent of Garretson, Norman of Graettinger IA, and Gerald of Rapid City; his sons William (Kirstie) and Andrew (Jackie) of Rapid City, and grandchildren Ozzie, Madi, & Brodie, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Eide in 1987.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson at 1PM.
