Orrell “Ape” Hanson, 73, of Sioux Falls died Friday, April 17, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Benton Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Orrell Nickelson Hanson was born January 20, 1942 in Dell Rapids to parents Orwell and Inez (Nelson) Hanson.
He grew up west of Baltic and later he married Trudy Leum on July 16, 1966. He then married Donna Zuraff on July 15, 1978. On May 19, 1996 he married Julie Ruby (Roesler) and continued to live in Sioux Falls.
Orrell worked at John Morrell and Company for 22 and half years and drove a race car at Huset’s and Madison Speedways. He also worked for Hills of Rest Cemetery, Boomer’s, Woodlawn Cemetery, and Hi Ho Bar.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Julie, son, Troy (Caren) Hanson, Las Vegas; daughter, Dana (Tara) Hanson, Sioux Falls; step daughter Gina (John) Skinner, Sioux Falls; daughters, Christine White and Dawn Hanson, both of Rock Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Darrell “Bones” (Candi) Hanson, Sioux Falls; Orlen Hanson, Springfield; two sisters, Janice (Lynwood) Ellens, Hartford and Doreen (Lee) Butenschoen, Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Austin Hanson, Madison Skinner, Dylan Skinner, Tiffany White, Brandon White, Nicholas White, Tyler Vandenoever, Alex Vandenoever, and Catlin Hanson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orwell and Inez Hanson, and brothers, Marlin and Ordell.
