Fayella (Faye) Aspaas, age 93, died peacefully at Sanford Hospice Cottage, on April 16, 2015. Faye was born June 15, 1921 on a farm in Splitrock Township near Brandon, SD, to Andrew and Letha (McCullough) Torkelson. On June 26, 1940, she married Nils Aspaas at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church. They had two children, Lynn and Kathryn. Faye and Nils lived on the family farm near Baltic for 29 years, before moving into town. Like many woman of her time, Faye was at the center of her family’s life on the farm. Faye was also an avid golfer, bowler, and card player, and she and Nils frequently could be found on the dance floor together. She was a very gracious host and fantastic cook, whose home was always open for a gathering of friends and family. Faye's pies alone will probably be requested in heaven!

Faye is survived by her son, Lynn; sister, Ihla Ode; son-in-law, Ron Hefty (Eloise); grandchildren Maren Aspaas (John Legler); Kyle Aspaas (Wendy); Brian Hefty (Jenny); Darren Hefty; and Jannel Brueggeman (Paul); and 12 great-grandchildren. Faye is preceded in death by her husband, Nils; daughter, Kathryn; daughter-in-law, Barbara Aspaas; sister, Francis Scott; and great-grandchildren Grace Hefty (Darren) and Jonas Brueggeman (Jannel).

Visitation will be Monday, April 20 from 5-7 pm at the Minnehaha Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be Tuesday, April 21 at 11 am at East Nidaros Lutheran Church. Memorials in Faye’s honor can be directed to East Nidaros Lutheran Church, Baltic, SD.
