Truus Van Helden, 92, of Sioux Falls formerly of Colton met her Lord Monday, November 10, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at Sanford Heart Hospital.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Frist Reformed Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour before the service.

Truus Hoek was born on January 9, 1922 to Leendert and Martja (Vant Hul) Hoek in Zuid-Beyerland, The Netherlands. After attending eight years of formal school, she worked for several families as a nanny. While working she completed two years of Fashion Design School.

She married Cornie Van Helden on December 9, 1942 during the German Occupation of World War II. While living in Rotterdam they were blessed with two children Tony and Cathi. Then in 1955 they immigrated to Colton, South Dakota where their daughter Marcia was born. She worked for twelve years for Amdahl & Van Helden Construction, where she did painting and wood work finishing.
Truus attended the First Reformed Church in Colton, where she was active in the Reformed Church Women’s group and as a Sunday school teacher. They retired to Sioux Falls in 1993 and they attended First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. Cornie passed away on July 20, 2001. She then moved to Sunny Crest Retirement Village.

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and going to the annual family camping trip to Lanesboro, Minnesota as well as a trip to Holland at the age of 90. She and Cornie enjoyed traveling and made many trips back to the Netherlands. They also enjoyed hosting Dutch families and showing them the US. Her family and faith were most important to her.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Tony & Judy Van Helden, Spencer, Iowa; Cathi & Ron Costain, Baltic; and Vince & Marcia Boeve-Alfano, Luverne, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Ronette) Costain; Kevin (Danette) Costain; Renae (Russ) Christensen; Daron (Beth) Van Helden; Sonja Simon; Mikel (Leah) Boeve; Rashel (Erik) Selden; and Derek Boeve; eleven great grandchildren; and a sister, Marta De Lange of the Netherlands.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornie, her parents, six brothers and sisters and a son in law, Jim Boeve.
