Alvin L. Farr, 88, of rural Hartford passed away in his home surrounded by love after a short battle with cancer on Thursday, October 30, 2014.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Faith Community Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery with Military Rites by the Crooks VFW. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.

Memorials may be directed to the Faith Community Church or the Colton Cemetery.

Alvin Leonard Farr was born June 27, 1926 near Humboldt, South Dakota to parents Lawrence and Laura Belle (Wilder) Farr. At the age of one he moved with his family to the family homestead near Hartford. He received his education at the Grand Meadow Country School. He worked on the family farm until he entered the United States Army in January 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict until his discharge in February 1953.

Alvin married Grace Helen Swier on August 21, 1951 in Colton. They continued to farm until his retirement in 1991 and then started a wood craft business with Grace.

Alvin enjoyed square dancing, golfing, hunting and fishing. He served on numerous boards in the community. He was a member of the Faith Community Church.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Grace Farr, Hartford; his children, Debra (David) Stadther, Pipestone, MN; June (Jonathan) Arent, Andover, MN; Terry (Dawn) Farr, Sioux Falls; Pat Farr, Baltic; Paul (Dawn) Farr, Hartford; nine grandchildren, Julie (Joe) Lindquist, Sara Stadther, Carrie (Jayson) Firle, Heather (Chuck) Poulson, Andrew Farr, Darren Farr, Christopher Price, Amanda Farr and Connor Farr; nine great grandchildren, Katelynn, Owen, Hailey, Riley, Preston, Daniel, Jonathan, Samantha, and MaKayla, and a sister, Arline Mustar, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Cecil, Willis and Earl.
