Lawrence “Buddy” Wek was born on February 1, 1950 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD to parents Lawrence Richard and Edith Marilyn (Benson) Wek . He grew up in the Freeman area and graduated from Freeman High School in 1968. He farmed in the Freeman Area and drove the Creamery truck for AMPI until 1981. On June 26, 1985 he started Wek Bros Trucking and drove until his passing.
Buddy and his children lived in the Freeman area until they moved to Baltic in 1980. Buddy started dating Judy Wirkus in February of 1983 and they lived in Baltic with their 8 children. They split their time living in Baltic and their acreage outside of Dell Rapids since 1996.
Buddy enjoyed fishing, especially with his brother Ardon, going for car rides, watching old western movies… with the volume extremely loud and eating ice cream out of the bucket. He loved having his children see the United States from the windows of his 18 wheeler.
Buddy loved his dogs and they were a very important part of his everyday life. He and his granddaughter Zoe recently adopted Radar from the Human Society.
He liked to work on his acreage but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren especially feeding them snacks and letting them drive the lawn mower.
