Madeline Winterton, 89 of Garretson died Friday, September 26, 2014 at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 29, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Burial will be in the South Highland Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-8:00 PM Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Madeline was born May 23, 1925 to parents Oscar and Agnes (Steen) Krogstad at Dell Rapids. She grew up on a farm near Dell Rapids area and attended country school. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1943 and attended Nettleton College.

Madeline married Ordell Winterton May 2, 1948 at Willow Creek Lutheran Church, rural Dell Rapids. She lived on a farm near Sherman her entire married life.

Madeline was an active member of First Lutheran Church and WELCA in Sherman, where she held many offices and served as treasurer for several years. She was also a member of the Birthday Club, Sons of Norway, Extension Club, Garretson American Legion Auxiliary and a past member of the Norse Glee Club Auxiliary.

She enjoyed bowling, quilting and cooking for family and friends, loved having family around and very much enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 66 years, Ordell Winterton, Garretson; her children, Alice (Ray) Christensen, Sioux Falls; Beverly (Stuart) Nelson, Fountain, MN; Marilyn (Marcus) Anderson, Clearwater, MN; Gloria Winterton, Sioux Falls; Darrell (Teresa) Winterton, Garretson; Kristi (Scott) Hansen, Rochester, MN; Alan (LaDonna) Winterton, Sherman; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; her sisters, Vicky Howe, Doris (Arne) Brown, Margaret (Bob) Tidemann, brothers, Ordell (Doris) Krogstad, Richard (Charlynn) Krogstad, Adrian (Marcella) Krogstad, Glen (Carol) Krogstad, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Allen Krogstad.
