Orrin Eugene Volden, 91, of Renner, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, where he had resided for two years. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Monday, December 2, 2013, at the Renner Lutheran Church, Renner. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 PM Sunday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Orrin was born on the Volden Homestead on March 2, 1922, the son of Olymph and Gertrude (Lassessen) Volden. He attended the Berg Country School and Washington High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and received his basic training at the U.S. Naval Station, Great Lakes, Illinois. Orrin served during World War II and made trips to New Zealand and Australia. Orrin and his brother, Gordon, were the fourth generation to farm the home place near Renner. He was an active member of Renner Lutheran Church, and was involved in other community affairs.
Orrin is survived by seven nieces and nephews: Edward Erick Volden, Olymph Robert Volden, Jennifer Volden, Bettina Volden, Peder Per Volden, Rebecca Friedman, and Lionel Geretz. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gordon & Robert; four sisters: Betty Eggers, Ester Geretz, Thelma Mickadeit, and Marjorie Volden; and nephews, Clifford “Biff” and Robbin Eggers.
