Daryl Lee Ellis, 75, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 peacefully at his home. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Memorials may be directed to the Garretson Food Pantry or the Garretson Community Ambulance.

Daryl was born November 8, 1938 in Cherokee, Iowa to Clyde and Anna Ellis. He graduated from Lake Wilson High School. He married Mary Gordon on March 4, 1962 with whom he had two children, Robert and Sharon Ellis. He worked several different types of jobs including road construction. On November 17, 1973, Daryl married Judy Ellefson and had two sons, Lee and Rollie Ellis. Daryl and Judy moved to Twin Brooks, South Dakota where Daryl worked as a pipefitter at Big Stone Power Plant. In 1981, they moved to Center, North Dakota where Daryl worked on different power plants and coal gasification plants. In 1987, Daryl and Judy moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he worked at different union jobs. Daryl retired in 1998 from Plumbers and Pipefitters of Sioux Falls, Local 300. Daryl and Judy moved to Garretson, South Dakota in 2005 and lived there until his passing.

After retirement, Daryl enjoyed gardening, camping, and fishing. He was known as “Mr. Fix-It” and could fix anything including cars, lawn mowers, and anything in the house. In the last few years he found his way into the kitchen and really got into cooking. He would take recipes and add his two special ingredients: beans and sauerkraut.

Daryl was deeply loved and will be missed dearly. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Judy (Ellefson) Ellis, Garretson; daughter Sharon (Jon) Erickson and their children, Amber, Brad (Kristen) and their son Wyatt, James, and Emily Erickson all of Warner Robins, Georgia; son Lee Ellis of Garretson, SD; son Rollie (Cherie) Ellis and their daughter Kodie Ann of Garretson, SD; and brother David Ellis of Browerville, MN.

Daryl was preceded in death by his son Robert Ellis and former wife Mary Gordon, parents Clyde and Ann Ellis, and mother-in-law Betty Ellefson.
