Jean Eggers was born April 19, 1928 in Sioux Falls to Russell and Ethalen (Johnson) Bachtell. She was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran in Sioux Falls. She attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated from Washington High School in 1946.

On March 2, 1946, Jean was united in marriage to Curtis Eggers in Pipestone, MN. They moved to the Ed Nessan farm in 1946 where they farmed and raised their family until moving to the Eggers’ homestead in 1976. Along with working on the farm, Jean worked part-time for the Treasurer’s office, Register of Deeds, Civil Defense, Welfare, Energy Assistance, and 6 years full time in the County Auditor’s office.

Jean was a member of Renner Lutheran Church and very active in ELCW. She organized one of the local Renner Extension Clubs, Vice President of the Minnehaha County Republican Party, member of the Baltic American Legion Auxiliary, 5 year board member of the Selective Service System for the State of South Dakota as well as a member of Farm Bureau. She was chairwoman of the Soil Conservation District and member of the Recount Board for Minnehaha County.

One of her joys in life was taking care of her grandchildren and planning activities for them; this included Bible study, teaching conservation practices and of course play time. Saturday mornings was also an important day for Jean as it was “pancake breakfast day” at their home with the entire family and walk- in guests. After 31 years this practice still continues.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 67 years Curtis, daughters, Sandra (Dean) Sorum, Kathy (Paul) Evenson, Lanette (Darold) Diede, sons, Timothy Eggers, and Michael (Shelly) Eggers; all of Renner, South Dakota. Twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild with one on the way. Siblings: half-brother Russell Bachtell, Reno, NV, and two half-sisters Barb Kettelhut, and Valerie Bachtell of Alameda, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, half-brother Raymond Bachtell and half-sister Teri Bachtell.

Special thank you for the wonderful care Mom received from Avera McKennan Hospice and Good Samaritan Society staff and Colleen Alons. The family requests memorials to be directed to Renner Lutheran Church.
