Debra Lynn Jones, 59, of Sioux Falls formerly of Garretson passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Memorial services will begin at 10:30 AM Friday, August 30, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Debra Lynn Jones was born November 26, 1953 to parents Melvin “Buck “and Elmira (Myre) Jones at Valley Springs, South Dakota. She returned with her mother to San Diego, California where she lived until the age of 14 and then returned to Garretson in 1967. She attended school in California where she received the citizenship award and later graduated from Garretson High School in 1971. While she attended high school she worked at the Corner Café in Garretson and was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls. After graduation she moved to Sioux Falls and worked for Roger Wong at the Canton Café for seven years. She then worked at the VA Hospital for 32 years, where she received many awards and had many good friends, she retired in June of 2012.

Debra liked living a simple life, gardening with her best friend “Mac”, reading, holidays with her family, and enjoying her cat Ruby. She was always happy and did not hesitate to help anyone who needed it.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sisters, Pam (Jim) Zandt, Sioux Falls; Cynthia Tobias, Janesville, Wisconsin; two nephews, John (Stacey) Edie and Jeff (Jamie) Tobias; two nieces, Jennifer Josko and Tammy Tobias; six great nephews and one great niece; special friends, Don “Mac” McNeil and Sharon Bettcher and many other relatives and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Drew.
