Arnolf Melvin Albertson was born July 1, 1912 in rural Dell Rapids to parents Ludvig and Karen (Rostum) Albertson. He grew up with his parents, one brother and five sisters on the family farm in rural Dell Rapids. Following his education, he moved for a short time with his brother, Ivar to Portland, OR to try his hand in an automotive related line of work. Finding that his true love was still farming, he returned to the family farm which he purchased from his father where he spent his life until selling in 1974. Even after selling the farm, he couldn’t leave farming totally and spent several years working as a “hired hand”.
On June 16, 1946, Arnolf married Madelyn Horge and together they raised their family of three children until her death On February 15, 1973. Arnolf married Dorothy (Urben) Nesheim on November 16, 1974 and they lived near Renner, SD until he moved to Dells Nursing and Rehab Center in June of 2009. Dorothy’s health forced her to join him at the nursing home in December of 2009.
Arnolf enjoyed woodworking during his “retirement” years and created many beautiful things. The homes of his family and friends are filled with the unique and useful handcrafted “treasures” he created, which they will continue to cherish through the years. Arnolf was a faithful fan of his four grandchildren. Together with Dorothy they attended countless T-ball, softball, baseball and basketball games. He was a man of integrity who believed in hard work and honesty. He also enjoyed sharing his more playful and humorous side, especially with the staff at the nursing home.
Grateful for the privilege of sharing his life are his sister, Marie Gaustad, Livingston, MT; two daughters, Arlyce Albertson and Carol (Tom) Kessinger, both of Sioux Falls; son, Orlen (Trish) Albertson, Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Lindsay (Pat) Kyte, Ryan Kessinger, Chris Kessinger and A. J. Albertson, all of Sioux Falls; three great-grandchildren, Kjerstin Kyte, Elin Kyte and Dane Kyte, all of Sioux Falls and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Arnolf was preceded in death by his first wife, Madelyn; second wife, Dorothy, parents; one brother and four sisters.
