Milton G. Edmundson, age 94, of Garretson, joined his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 20, 2013, surrounded by the love of his family. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Monday, June, 24, 2013, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4-6:00 PM Sunday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Milton Gustav Edmundson was born at Garretson, SD to Holden and Louise (Gunderson) Edmundson on June 18,1919. Milton was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. He attended Sunny Slope School Dist. #136 at Garretson.

Milton ventured into farming with his father Holden and Uncle Eddie Edmundson. He enjoyed welding for himself and the neighbors. His favorite pastimes were visiting, refinishing furniture, making clocks, playing cards, and going fishing with his friends.

On Sept. 30, 1960, he married a childhood friend Loraine Phillips Gilman with Philip and Nancy Jo. He was a good father to them. Besides farming, Milton served on the school board, Palisades Township Board, Zion Lutheran Cemetery Board, leader of the Triple R’s 4-H Club, was a School Bus Driver, Custodian at Palisades Manor, and drove the Garretson Ambulance.

Milt enjoyed wood carving and has displayed his work at the Garretson Historical Museum where he was a charter member of the Historical Society. He volunteered his time and talents for the South Dakota Centennial Celebration in Minnehaha County.

Milt and Loraine had a passion for collecting and restoring antiques. They enjoyed craft shows, flea markets, and Arts in the Park. They wintered in Arizona for 11 years. Milt also enjoyed many trips with his family to visit Loraine's Gilman family in Florida and Vegas.

Milton was a member of the Garretson Senior Citizen and RSVP program helping with the nutrition program and delivered “Meals on Wheels”. He was rewarded in this life by the love and respect of his family.

His humble, sincere, and friendly demeanor will be deeply missed by his children Dr. Philip (Ann) Gilman Eagan, MN; Nancy Larsen Parkston SD; Grandchildren- Derek, Serena , and Jeaneth ; 2 sisters Carol Braa and Marjorie Lamp; brother in law, Robert Gilman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Loraine and her parents, Nead and Emma Phillips; Milt’s parents Holden and Louise; 3 brother in laws- Vernus, Kermit, and Hank; 2 sisters Evelyn and Helen; sister in law- Edna , Nephew George Phillips.
