Larry Tommeraasen, 62, of Baltic died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at his home after a long illness.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Baltic Lutheran Church, Baltic. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.

Larry Dean Tommeraasen was born September 19, 1950 in Sioux Falls to parents Allan and Rose (Baker) Tommeraasen. He grew up in the Renner and Sioux Falls area until the family moved to Baltic in 1964. He graduated from Baltic High School in 1968. During his high school years he worked for Kenny Gunderson and Arne Selland, milking cows and doing farm work. In 1970 he enlisted in the US Army and served in Vietnam. After his basic training he married Carol Opoien on November 28, 1970. He was discharged in 1972. He was then a member of the National Guard at Flandreau and was called up to help with the flooding in Rapid City in 1972. They lived near Baltic and Garretson before moving to Dell Rapids in 1976. In 2005 they moved back to Baltic.

Larry also worked for Sioux Falls Kenworth, before he bought his own truck and owned LDT Trucking. In 1995 he sold the trucking company and went to work for Bill Skelly Construction in Dell Rapids. He and his son Marc started M & L Construction in 2003. He worked with Marc until his health forced him to retire in 2010.

Larry was a member of Baltic Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls VFW and served on the Dell Rapids and Baltic City Councils.

Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and family on numerous camping and fishing trips. Carol and Larry also belonged to the Dakota Country Dance Club.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Carol, Baltic; two sons, David, Sioux Falls; Marc (Mindy). Baltic; a daughter, Amanda (Dustin) Harter, Baltic; two grandchildren, Andrew and Kaylynn; his siblings, Alana Tommeraasen, Baltic; Terry (Joan) Tommeraasen, Dell Rapids; James (Laura) Tommeraasen, Renner; Dale (Jerilyn) Tommeraasen, Brandon; Anita Tommeraasen, Baltic; Kenneth (Wanda) Tommeraasen, Baltic; Kevin (Tami) Tommeraasen, Lake Norden; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy, son, Douglas and his parents.

Larry requested that everyone dress in casual clothing for the service.

Memorial may be directed to the Baltic Lutheran Church.

The family would also like to thank the staff of Sanford Hospice for the care that they gave Larry during his illness.
