Nettie Nelson, 91, of Garretson, South Dakota passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Dow-Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Split Rock Lutheran Church, rural Brandon with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Nettie was born September 4, 1921 in Bond, Mississippi. She grew up and graduated from high school in Perkinson, Mississippi. During World War II she moved to California and worked at McDonald Douglas, where she met her husband, Robert. She and Robert were married February 14, 1947 at Gulfport, Mississippi.

After their marriage they lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Chester, Montana, Great Falls, Montana, and Los Banos, California. They moved to Garretson, South Dakota in 1972 after Robert’s retirement and farmed for 15 years. Nettie moved to Dow-Rummel Village in 2003.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, George (Susan) Nelson of Fresno, California, Debbie (Dan) Gouveia of Hines, Oregon and Gary (Linda) Nelson of Garretson South Dakota; five grandchildren, Craig and Keith Nelson, Nicholas Gouveia, Jeremy and Chris Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, George and Marion Sapp; three brothers, Edgar Sapp, Bernard Sapp and James Sapp; four sisters, Helen Johnson, Georgia Smith, Irline Smith, and Vesta Liles.
