Dale was born on December 16, 1940, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Russell and Mildred (Karli) Bergin. He grew up in the Sherman area and graduated from Garretson High School in 1958. He held various occupations throughout his life which included working at John Morrell, Sioux Valley Hospital, Palisade Manor, and Christensen Farms. Dale had a great sense of humor and enjoyed drinking coffee with his morning coffee group at Palisade Oil. He would also spend countless hours taking care of his lawn and flowers. He loved watching old movies on TV, and going to Sioux Falls to find a dinner of liver & onions, or sautéed shrimp. Dale was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, in Garretson, where he was an usher and took care of the church building.
Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Sharon (Marvin) Hawes of Luverne, MN; nieces: Connie Hawes and Amy (Chris) Otto; nephew, Curt (Chona) Hawes; great-nieces & nephew: Casey Hawes, Carrie Hawes, and Abigail Otto. He was preceded in death by his parents.
