Betty Jane Miller passed away December 12, 2012 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage after battling brain cancer.

She was born September 9, 1930 to Deede and Thomas Varns in Flandreau. She grew up in the Chester and Colton area, graduating from Lyons High School in 1948. Later that year she married Vincent Miller. They farmed near Colton, raising five children. They retired to Sioux Falls in 1995.

Betty was always active in the United Methodist Church, loved singing and directing the choir in Texas. She loved the 17 winters they spent in Texas and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She and Vince volunteered at Sanford Hospital for 16 years and were named 2012 Volunteers of the Year. She was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Vince, Sioux Falls; children, Barbara (Keith) Bullock, Atlanta, GA; Donna Johnson, Sioux Falls; Dave (Lorie) Miller, Mitchell, Karen (Mike) Sexton, Sioux Falls; Sheri (Shane) Swedlund, Sioux Falls; ten grandchildren; Heidi Hulme, Kirsten Gebhardt, Jeremy Bullock, Heather Smith, Mike Miller, Siana & Spencer Swedlund, Samantha Solomon, Echoe & Phillip Ragel (Johnson); eleven great grandchildren; Jarrod & Karsten Hulme, Seth & Nathan Bullock, Reed & Annika Smith, Majesta, Hannah, & Katarah Johnson, and Gavin Solomon; four siblings, Goldie Varns, Loretta (Duane) Miller, Norman (Dorothy) Varns, and Eula Varns and family friend, Marlys Woolheater, all of Sioux Falls.

Waiting to greet her in heaven are her parents, son in law, Stan Johnson, infant great grandchild, Miranda Bullock, five siblings, Virginia Bandura, Ed Varns, Erma Lahn, and Dorothy Welbig, and an infant James Varns.

Visitation will be from 4-6:00 PM Sunday, December 16, 2012 with a time of sharing at 6:00 PM at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Monday, December 17, 2012 at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church.
