Elwin N. Hodne, 91, of Brandon formerly of Sioux Falls died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Monday, December 10, 2012 at East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Burial with Military Honors will at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Visitation with the family present will be from 1-4:00 PM Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Elwin was born November 10, 1921 on a farm near Valley Springs to parents Ole and Selma (Nelson) Hodne. He graduated from Garretson High School in 1939. After his education, he joined the United States Army in the fall of 1942 and served in Africa, Italy, Anzio, and Germany during World War II. He received the Purple Heart during his service.
He married Evelyn Jordahl March 21, 1947 at Luverne, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in Sioux Falls and Elwin worked as an engineer for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 36 years, retiring in 1984. Evelyn died in 1997.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Terry Hodne, Brandon, Pam Nesheim and her husband Dale, Baltic; Karen Doherty, Sioux Falls; three grandchildren, Kimberly Hodne, Kyla (Matt) Copeland, and Eric Nesheim; three great grandchildren, Brandon, Justice and Kali; and a sister, Inez Eastman, Sioux Falls.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, brother, Clifford, sisters, Bernice and Geneva.
