Stephen H. Sater, 62, of Chester passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends after losing his battle with cancer Saturday, November 17, 2012.
Memorial services will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Taopi Community Hall in Colton. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Stephen “Steve” Harold Sater was born in Sioux Falls to parents Arthur E. and Tina (Hovie) Sater. He grew up and received his education in Sioux Falls. He enjoyed his paper route as a young man growing up with his parents, two brothers and sister. He then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen. He still maintained many close friendships from his time in college.
Steve was the significant other and loving companion to Lee Berding for nearly twenty years, thus becoming a very loving step-father to Lee’s five children and grandfather to six beautiful grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Steve and Lee made their home in Tower City, ND where he was the office manager for Buffalo Grain Elevator until taking the position as office manager for Colton Grain Elevator where he was employed since July of 2001. They settled in their home on Brant Lake where he enjoyed spending time and boating. Steve was an avid golfer, liked to read and spent a great amount of time with his dog, Sami.
Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Judy (Len) Haseman, Eagan, MN; sister-in-law, Jan Sater, Moorhead, MN; significant other and companion, Lee Berding, Chester; her children, Victoria Lee Berding, Lancaster, CA, Brad Berding, Chester, Hal (Gerilyn) Berding, Clearlake, IA, Renée (Rich) Strotman, Waterloo, IA and Marla (Jeff) Pulkrabeck, Amery, WI; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as nieces, Nicole (Michael) Anderson and Kathryn (Ian) Asplund; nephews, Eric (Alison) Haseman and Mark (Vija) Haseman and many other relatives and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur T. Sater and David K. Sater and uncle, Eilif Hovie.
Memorials in Steve’s name may be directed to the donor’s preference.
